Some more random stuff on the future of internets and things
Last night I had a beer (or two) with David Erickson from eStrategy. If you’re not familiar with his blog, you should check it out—he’s been doing “new media marketing” or “online solutions” or whatever you want to call it for awhile and posts some really great slideshows and data sets.
Anyway, here’s a couple upcoming developments that we discussed that I think will be solid online trends in 2009, and I just want to share them with you because that’s the kind of blog you’ve come to expect.
— As marketering transistions to including more social media, and as on-demand video distribution grows, online video will include options for users to select their own advertising and ad companies will start making ads that people can send around the web and can be posted to their TV like videos are now posted to The Facebook.
— Has anyone coined the term “remote collectivity”? Because I want to right here and right now so don’t steal it. Let’s say you’re appealing to a group of suburban moms who have to spend an hour to do anything because they have kids to pack up and 25 minute drives to get anywhere. Are they going to their friend’s suburban home to a tupperware party? Or are they going to have their laptop on the counterand group chat/twitter/WoW each other? The gaming trend will start to take, and be divided along urban/suburban/rural lines. (Is there a study on out on how much time people spend with virtual friends vs. people IRL?)
— Geography will play a larger role in how ad/marketing campaigns are crafted. Yes, there a huge elements of the urban/suburban demos, but there are regional differences, such as everyone I know using twitter to tell me that it’s -21 outside. I doubt they have those discussions on twitter in south Florida.
