This is why there were protests got out of hand down Cedar this evening.
After a very tame aftenroon, this MPR video pretty much encompasses the beginning half of my evening and this is the last half.
Just quickly, some notes on the RNC so far:
*Musicians that I listened to non-stop when I was a kid that I’ve met this week: Tom Morello, Mos Def, Dead Prez
*Other musicians that I’ve met: Dan Wilson of Semisonic, who asked me about the security in St. Paul
*8 out of 10 cops are doing a really good job on security. It’s the 2 others who are really ruining things. I even said to a Sherrif, who couldn’t let Rage go on, “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.” He smiled and said, “Yep.”
*The media split with the convention isn’t with Citizen Journalists and the MSM, it’s with organizations that write the news in the morning and see what happens and organizations that just post episodes. And that’s a long ways ahead of where we were a year ago. A little more convergence and things will be interesting.
*The best news source, as everyone has been saying, is Tweet Scan, hands down (and it will be a matter of time before that’s messed up, right? I’ve been filtering the #RNC08 tag with Yahoo Pipes). But being out and about, it’s really telling when a radio station can turn this video that was shot on a small handheld around before the day’s end.
*The term anarchist is ridiculous. They should be referred to as “hooligans”, much like rioting soccer fans.
