LIVE BLOGGING the new issue of MnMo

Okay. I’m over at my buddy’s house, having a bunch of beerz and waiting for the grill to warm up before he starts making fajitas for a bunch of us. He just got the new issue of Minnesota Monthly in the mail, and I’ve grabbed his ibook to LIVE BLOG a page-through of it. Here it goes.

The cover: Oh, that chick is kind of hot. Who is that? “Gossip, Celebs, and faux Gucci: inside the cult of Lori & Julia” it says on the cover. Is that Lori or Julia?

Some ads.

More ads.

On the cover: “model: Delena”. Seriously? The cover model only has one name? And it’s not Lori or Julia? Lame.

(Other folks over here are commenting that she’s not that hot. NOT TRUE.)

Foreword: “Seasonal Disorder”. It’s about the fair being over. Um, okay Putz.

Talk: Ah, nice, Ian McKellan. Yes, he really does have the power to sell tickets. You could mention he’s an outspoken advocate for gay rights… but whatever.

Talk: Mary Jo Pehl’s piece is pretty good. Gonna keep an eye for her stuff.

The Look: Laura Schara is the “trend expert” at Macy’s? “Metallic is the new black”? Ah, I see, you get that job from finding out what’s the new black. She’s cute, though.

Scene: Sweet! A bunch of photos of people I don’t know at an event I couldn’t get into!  Why do mags always have these?

Okay, let’s cut to the chase, where’s the stuff from Tim Gihring? Okay, here is is, “The Big Picture” and “What transitions in the leadership ranks mean for the local arts scene”. YES. This is what I’m talking about. Well done. One thing, though, Tim, why haven’t you talked about the lack of transition in some institutions? Like Jeune Lune? There’s a good piece for you: why hasn’t Jeune Lune stopped doing the same pieces from ten years ago and handed over the reigns!?

Theater: Hey, it’s Rachel! Great, Bedlam. Those kids are going to be gigantic in the next year, just watch. I don’t know that MnMo’s crowd is going to check them out, but they’re still going to have so big shows in the future.

Media: Oh, it’s Rachel again. Alright. You know what? I’m gonna save the rest of this issue for later, maybe after the fajitas. I should give this a little more than my half attention.
