From the Star-Tribune:
Here’s an artist’s rendering of the planned new Lowry Avenue Bridge — a steel-arch, basket-handle design estimated to cost about $80 million. This afternoon, Hennepin County will reveal more details about the new bridge along with information on the demolition of the existing century-old structure set to be imploded at 9 a.m. Sunday. The two-lane bridge spanning the Mississippi River between north and northeast Minneapolis has been closed for a year after being found structurally deficient. The steel open-grate bridge was built in 1905 and substantially rebuilt on its original piers in 1958. Construction of the new bridge is scheduled to start this fall and take two years.
I grew up a block south of here on 22nd and Grand and I gotta tell ya, I’m going to miss that Big Green Bastard
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
