Just a note — I’ve been planning on KREATOR rolling into town (well, Maplewood anyway) in early April, just in time for my birthday extravaganza (which you’re all invited to, btw). But it now looks like Mille & Co. won’t be in Minnesota until April 18th.  I’m still super excited for the show, particularly since the new album “HORDES OF CHAOS” is...

Strib's Anonymous Sources
chuckt: Below is a quick tour of the StarTribune’s anonymous or vaguely-sourced connections between the South Minneapolis Abubakar As-Saddique mosque and local Somali immigrants who have gone missing in recent months. Specifically, I cannot find a single Strib story with any identifiable source directly connecting the mosque with deceased suicide bomber Shirwa Ahmed, who was name-checked by the...

s4xton: [Andy] Sen. Paul Koering Minnesota State Senate Dear Sen. Koering, I never thought I’d be writing the gay, even a Republican the gay like yourself, but you did something this week that deserves my heartfelt thanks. You announced you would uphold one of our nation’s most cherished segregationist traditions and vote to deny yourself the right to marry the one you love....

I think it’s often hard to communicate to people that folks under 30 have been interrupted and had shit shoved in front of their faces all day everyday since 1985, and that it’s not really going to work for connecting with us anymore.  This video from Ruby Pseudo does a great job of communicating that. {soc}

Seth: did I tell you I finally went to the restaurant supply store? well it is awesome
me: really.
Seth: yeah I went to http://www.hockenbergs.com/ it's like NE of Dinkytown in that industrial area north of the train tracks there's a fucking huge restaurant supply place on como in st. paul but that isn't open to the public if you ever need a aluminum pot/pan baking sheet knife turner
AM me: how did you get in if it isn't open to the public?
Seth: No, the huge place near the st. paul umn campus is closed to the public hockenberg isn't necessarily HUGE but it is big and IS open to the public they have some stuff that is weirdly expensive, like cast iron pans and shit that is way cheaper on ebay
me: did you buy one of those giant bread bakers?
Seth: I wanted to get a nacho machine grant should buy one also a $400 5 gallon rice cooker
me: we should get Grant to buy a churro maker how awesome would that be?
Seth: god, crunchy churros while we watch mvs
me: I'm putting htis on my blog, maybe someone will read it and get a churro machine and invite us over
Seth: dreams are all we have
me: dreams and cats who hide under our desks

Paired: an arthouse speakeasy
A few weeks ago I went to a super cool event at the Casket Arts building. The production combined visual art from Kyle Loven and Andrea Steudel of the Open Eye Theater with a four course dinner, and wine and beer flights, from Chris Olson, the chef who created the menu for Moto-i. It was aptly called “Paired”, and there’s another one coming up on February 28th; this time the...
